Ed Jaffe Oak Tree
Ed Jaffe Oak Tree, leaded stained glass, 1976, 70” x 46.5”
In 1976, at 25 years old, I was asked by Ed and Lola Jaffe to do a commission on a wall that had a drawing by artist Rico LeBrun that was fading in the sunlight. They understood that glass would be able to endure the strong light. I designed and built this large stained glass panel using mouth blown French antique style glass. When the sun came through it, patterns and shadows would cast onto the wall in a very dramatic way. This was an exciting commission for me in that their home had beautiful, meaningful artworks by famous artists like the Adolf Gottleib tapestry to the left, and Leonard Baskins’ drawing to the right.
